So since walking animations for all mons including megas were found in the code, does that mean there's a chance in the future that we'll be able to have mons be mega evolved outside battle?
What mons would benefit the most from the the ability to start off mega evolved aside from walls and Zard X?
Well, if they still need the mega stone, then it literally doesn't matter since mega evolving has complete priority and speed is updated on the turn they mega evolve now

>being able to set up DD without fear of earthquake
>this is a bad thing
I get the pebbles weakness and all, but good zard users can get around it.

If Zard X could start the battle that way, he'd be able to take rocks better. Same deal with Sableye, having access to magic bounce while switching in for the first time would be a big boost.

It would give a small bit of extra depth for Zard in that area. Either start off mega evolved for reduced rocks damage and the overall superior defensive typing or don't and take the extra damage from rocks in exchange for EQ switch ins and keep your opponent guessing what mega you are.

The Mega walking/running animations are for use in games like PMD

No they're not. The models that main series and PMD uses are different.
They exist to avoid glitches. It's the same reason all mons have shinies programmed even if they're never released.
Imagine coding like a table, an Excell spreadsheet. You have columns like "standing still", "attacking", "ko", etc. They have to fill all the spaces with each Pokémon, otherwise blank spaces will cause trouble. Alakazam and Mega-Alakazam are different models, and they both must fill every single space in that table. (This is one of the main ones in gen I actually, blank spaces that were supposed to be for Pokémon post 151 and but the game finds nothing in spot 152).

More likely than not it's to prevent the game from crashing when someone just injects lol a pokemon thats hacked to always be mega.
Or it was before they removed the feature alltogether

That was an issue in 6th gen for amie if someone hacked mega formes into it. SM got around it by making it default to Pikachu. They'd just do that for following mons if that was the case.
maybe they wanted to make battles like in Wild ARMs 3 or Dragon Quest IX but couldn't make it work on O3DS
or maybe Pokefinder was just supposed to be way more robust with special scenarios
or maybe they just had a bunch of animators who did a lot of work for XY doing all 721 and needed to keep them busy on SM
