There's less options for both boys and girls than there are in XY, the ability to remove your hat be damned. No long clothes or dresses, boys can't have hat accessories and some hairstyles prevent you from wearing hats or having decorations.
If character customisation in Nintendo games had a scale, Pokemon would probably be at one end and Animal Crossing at the other.
