Whatever happened to the kind of writing found in the first films?
You know, characters with actual depth. Themes and questions that aren't superficial, generic kids stuff. Just compare the characterization of Mewtwo in the first film (and the special) to the new Mewtwo in M16 and see the stark resemblance.

Cash-cow syndrome. It'll sell no matter what so why bother with quality?

First of all discuss this in your containment thread.
Second of all:
>Mewtwo
>Character
If by character you mean being a hypocrite then yeah.

Shudo hasn't been around since the 3rd movie and Mewtwo Returns.

>hypocrite
So you just watched the dub?
Don't forget The Birth of Mewtwo either. It's dark in a good way with how it shows Dr. Fuji and Mewtwo trying to deal with loss without being edgy at all.

The first season of Pokemon was way more popular so they had enought money to put some thought in their movies.
Then the season 2 of Pokemon failed badly when it aired and everything went to shit
Pokemon got older.
I don't know if we'll ever get the same stuff that you said in the future, but it sure would be nice if we did.

the 1st movie is overrated what happened to the kind of writing we saw in the 3rd film?
>>31950919
This, they already used all the ideas.
>>31950817
And? OP was referring to the first movie, indeed you twat.

The Mewtwo from the first movie got betrayed by some humans so he decides to isolate himself from the world and devise a plan to kill all pokemon and replace them with clones.
The Mewtwo from the Genesect movie, meanwhile, decides to become a friend and hero to all pokemon, saving the lives of any pokemon in danger while wanting nothing to do with dem filthy humans, and constantly takes her powers beyond their limit for the joy of it.
Mewtwo-wise, the one from movie 16 is the better character, but the movie wasn't really about her nor was as much of a big spectacle like the first one, back when the franchise was trying to prove itself and not merely promoting event legendaries.

>The Mewtwo from the first movie got betrayed by some humans so he decides to isolate himself from the world and devise a plan to kill all pokemon and replace them with clones.
If you think this is all there is to Mewtwo in the first film, then you need to watch it again, preferably in Japanese and with the birth of Mewtwo part.
>The Mewtwo from the Genesect movie, meanwhile, decides to become a friend and hero to all pokemon, saving the lives of any pokemon in danger while wanting nothing to do with dem filthy humans, and constantly takes her powers beyond their limit for the joy of it.
Literally what OP stated: superficial, generic themes. Infinitely less interesting than movie 1 Mewtwo's philosophical questions about the meaning of his existence.

>Mewtwo-wise, the one from movie 16 is the bet..
You must be b8.
The first mewtwo actually brings interesting themes, and questions.

So is Mewtwo more human than Pokemon considering he has an existential crisis?
