Calm yourself. Generations have passed and the kids that watched pokemon have now grew up to become adults. Now, a new generation looks at pokemon but its not at the first like we had seen. The way I see it, its a look back to show how it all started, something we all possibly forgot, and to show the new generation what happened first.

Pokemon will keep referencing gen 1 for the same reason that every other Nintendo franchise that's been around for two decades constantly references the oldest games in their series. Nobody bitches about SMB 1-1 being referenced every chance Nintendo gets.
