Canonically, in the core-series of Pokémon. Mew gender is unknown.

There are multiple Mew as well.

This again? speed is agility, not literal speed. Sure, fast pokemon normally have higher a higher speed stat but it isn't mandatory.

fucking bigot

males are incapable of producing offspring though.
they can birth them in some odd cases, but only females can make them, and females can even make them without the need for males in some species.

Pokémon Genders are canon.
>>

>>31945363
So it's accurate that Miltank has 100 speed and Purugly 112, while Escavalier, which is said to "fly around at high speed" has 20. Not 50, not 60, 20.
It's obvious that they prioritize decision for gameplay's sake and not what makes sense, just get over it.
>>
>>31945358

Maybe.

What?

>and females can even make them without the need for males in some species
Or in the case of cloning, and it's what happened with mew
and assexual reproduction is way more common than anyone thinks, even in species that have sexual differentiation
>>
>>31945369
Yeah. I just said it isn't literal speed. Escavalier is clunky and has the spears and the helmet and the entire armor to move, it can't fly around fast at any time, it needs start up, which it doesn't get in battle. On the other hand, while miltank and purugly might be fat and slower, but are agile due to their shape, miltank could roll around to attack first and purugly can dash and react fast since it's a cat.

It's not a hard concept to grasp
>>
As long as it's a girl in the porn I don't give a fuck.
>>
>>31945357
>possess the genes of all pokemons
how does that work ?
>>
>>31945418
it has a very long strand of DNA and maybe suppressed genes
Although I always had the idea mew transforms its body whenever it attacks, like growing giant claws, huge teeth, etc.
>>
>>31945411
Yeah, that's completely wrong though. An immobile Gigalith shouldn't be 25% faster than something that can fly around, even with a slow start up. the fat cat isn't agile at all, or at least not faster than latios.
It's a really easy concept to grasp, but you don't seem to get it. Oh well.
>>
>>31945430
Not that guy bot movement speed =/= speed in pokemon
Gigalith doesn't need to walk to summon stones from the ground or cause an earthquake
>>
FUCK OFF RICHARD
>>
>>31945446
But then every Pokémon using those moves should have the same speed.
Latios can obviously attack and dodge faster than Purugly. Staraptor isn't less agile than Purugly or the same as Miltank.
Get over it man, Speed tiers in Pokémon don't make sense. They even joke about it in various Pokédex entries.
>>
>>31945418
All Pokémon DNA.
>>
>>31945411
Miltank rolling is the exact opposite of agility, it needs to start up, gain acceleration and time to stop. You contraddicted yourself
>>
>>31945430
>An immobile Gigalith shouldn't be 25% faster than something that can fly around, even with a slow start up.
It isn't immobile though, it has legs it can thrust itself with, something escavalier can't do. It's not like it's fast anyways, but it is faster.

>the fat cat isn't agile at all, or at least not faster than latios
according to you. There's no reason to believe it shouldn't have higher reaction times.
>>
>>31945467
Yes, just like any RPG, stats are arbitrary and don't actually represent how each battle realistically happen

>>
>>31945478
Ridiculous. There's people that actually believe that stats made for gameplay's sake in a videogame are an actual representation of how battle works.
>There's no reason to believe it shouldn't have higher reaction times.
Oh, so now speed is "reaction times", not even dodging.
>>
>>31945489
FUCK OFF RICHARD
>>
>>31945475
not really. Miltank has a way of propulsing and moving itself faster than it could by having to run, so it can use this type of movement to circumvent its own fatness.

Again, something like escavalier can't. And take a look at what other pokemon share its speed tier: a pokemon holding a giant gemstone, and a pokemon with a volcano on its back.

Pokémon stats are non-canon.
>>
>>31945512
>Ridiculous. There's people that actually believe that stats made for gameplay's sake in a videogame are an actual representation of how battle works.
I never said you couldn't believe so, I just said the way it's represented it makes much more sense for it to be agility and not actual speed.

>Oh, so now speed is "reaction times", not even dodging.
no? it's agility, something reaction times is part off since the pokemon would have to take the trainer's order and do it before the opponent does theirs.
>>
>>31945523
:)
>>
>>31945531
forgot to add, it isn't dodging, dodging is it's own stat
>>
>>31945516
>Not really
Yes, really, actually. It's exactly that, the opposite of agility. It needs either some sort of start up or an incline to roll fast. Also there's no reason to believe that Escavalier needs much time to fly fast.

>>
>>31945531
It makes more sense, but considering them canon or accurate is foolish.
>>
>>31945550
>It's exactly that, the opposite of agility. It needs either some sort of start up or an incline to roll fast.
it can lunge forward and keep the momentum by rolling. It doesn't take that long to lunge, certainly less than something like escavalier. And I mentioned how escavalier has to fly with the entire knight apparel it has, with the spears and helmet, while in its tiny body and lacking the innate ability of levitation or being a flying type.

>>31945565
>considering them canon or accurate is foolish
Says you, who considers it literal speed. I'd much rather see this concept as something that isn't completely abstract if it has some sort of ground where it can base itself off of.

>>31945555
>browsing /vp/ with your girlfriend
treat your "girlfriend" better dude.
>>
>>31945531

can you elaborate on what you mean by agility and speed?
>>
>>31945591
So a Miltank can lunge, start rolling and then curl out to attack at the same speed as a Staraptor that has already taken flight?
>>
>>31945591
>>31945565
>>31945550
>>31945548
>>31945531
>speed isn't speed
Holy shit this entire argument is retarded
Sonic the Hedgehog is considered the fastest thing alive in his series because he fucking goes fast, not because he has momentum or agility or has 12 hours of prep time in a Pedro spot while QPU aligned.
Why shouldn't the same be true for Pokémon?
>>
>>31945622
Yeah, that guy is making the same argument as people saying "Sonic is slow because Mario can travel for 10 metres on the first level faster than Sonic!"
In-game stats, genders and all that shit are obviously dictated for gameplay's sake, not to be realistic or accurate.
>>
>>31945604
Agility: the ability to outmaneuver your opponent to land your attack first.

Speed: top speed it can reach.

>>31945612
...you got me there actually. Maybe miltank can simply use the roll itself to propulse the attack while staraptor has to fly to a position from which it can attack? Maybe miltank rolls more gracefully than staraptor flies? I mean, talonflame also flies but that one's faster.

>>31945622
>He takes everything literally
Why don't pokemon die after losing all Health Points?
>>
>>31945622
Something something Bruce Lee vs Usain Bolt
>>
>>31945656
>talonflame also flies but that one's faster
Yeah, to differentiate it from other birds, for you know, gameplay reasons. Some speed tiers make sense, some don't. Some gender rates make sense, some don't and are that way because they are part of a larger group. I'm not saying they are always wrong, but realism is clearly not the main priority.
>>
>>31945656
Because they're Hit Points, not actual health, retard. That other guy is right, you have literally no concept of gameplay for gameplay's sake.
>>
>>31945677
>Speed is just speed dumbass!
>H-health points are actually Hit points idiot!
Point taken

>>31945675
>realism is clearly not the main priority.
I... yeah you're probably right.
I guess it's just a headcannon then. I still feel it makes more sense but I see how it's wrong. Sorry.
>>
>>31945712
They have literally never been called Health Points. They have always been called Hit Points in every form of Pokémon media that has described it. You are in the wrong here.
>>
>>31945736
fuck
>>
>>31945712
I don't think it's a headcannon, I think it's more of a case of: 80% of speed tiers/gender ratios make sense, but there are clear example of some being completely innacurate, and we shouldn't take ALL of them for granted.
And the reason is that they are making games and they base their decisions on what makes the game better (or just traditions, in some cases).
Moves like Iron Tail for Alakazam are other examples of stuff that couldn't happen in reality.
>>
>>31945474
Does that include Arceus?
>>
>>31945356
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phasme
Can't find it it english but basically :
>l’étude du groupe Bacillus (Scali et al 20031) a montré l’existence de 3 modes reproductifs supplémentaires que sont l’androgenèse[...]
>the study of the group Bacillus showed evidence of three additionnal reproductive modes that are androgenesis [...]
Androgenesis being exactly that : male producing offspring by himself.

I'm sorry nature doesn't conform to your opinion, dude.
>>
>>31945768
Member when Elgyem and Beeheeyem could learn Steel Wing in Gen 6? And we never figured out if it was an oversight from Heart Swap in Gen 5 or a reference to Area 51?
>>
>>31945797
Actually I forgot about that. What the fuck.
>>
>>31945781
oh fuck didn't know this. This is actually very interesting, is there more information to this? I tried looking it up but I can only find the most basic of definitions on dictionary websites.
>>
Stats obviously mean different thing for different Pokemon. Attack for most Fighting-types is a measurement of strength, whereas for things like Bisharp and Kartana it represents the sharpness of their blades. Or how Kartana's high Defense is meant to represent its evasion.
>>
>>31945815
Well, so far it's only been documented for that species of insect as far as I know, so it's pretty hard to find information on this, and it doesn't even have its own page on wikipedia.
However, it's been reported to occur on a species of plant too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupressus_dupreziana
Look for male apomixis.

But if you want to look up some reproduction related things in the living beings, I suggest you'd look for parthenogenesis, ZW sex differentiation, Hermaphrodism. These should take you to an universe of oddities.

I've even seen a case of some animal exclusively female which would reproduce asexually, but only after having sex with an other species.
That sounds so fucking weird, but the sperm of the male from another specied doesn't fertilize the eggs, it simply triggers the parthenogenesis. I wish I'd find it again.
>>
>>31945851
>Kartana's high Defense is meant to represent its evasion.
I thought it was a joke referring to how hard it is bend paper
>>
>>31945887
I'd heard of some of those before, specially parthenogenesis which is why I mentioned the bit about females of a species not needing males to breed, but I thought it was not possible for males to do so. Thanks for this information anon.
>>
>>31945851
So Kartana has more (almost 3 times) evasion for physical attacks then special ones? Anon, no... UBs are just min maxed creatures for the sake of being fun and different.
>>
>>31945887
Also, nature provides species that can change sex (sometimes at will, sometimes not (depends on shit like acidity, temperature, size of the population, or even staying virgin for too long)), it's been reported than spermatozoons can change the DNA of cells they're in contact with, (also look up for some spermatozoons, some are fucking crazy, like a spermatozoon that carries others, attacks others, and so on) shit's crazy, I tell you.
There's even species with more than two sexes.
Especially this one which is crazy in more than one way.

Also this about the same species.

It's a reference to trying to grab a piece of paper that's getting blown around in the wind. They even mention its evasiveness in the game:
>Its thin body also allows it to evade attacks by dancing lightly out of the way.
>>
>>31946004
Hitting a really small target that's costantly moving seems hard with special attacks too. I get what you mean, though.
