I'm surprised the anime dub is even still going. I understand why they did it during BF and DP because it was the first seasons the new dub did and back then ratings were still decent, but ever since the BW and XY dubs the ratings have plummetted.

How does the dub even make money? It still costs money to localize, dub and edit shows for english broadcast, not to mention the salary for the voice actors.

Me too. I'm guessing it's just because Pokemon sells on brand recognition alone, so it must be that keeping the dub on air by now, although the ratings continued to sink with the SM dub's premiere.

I'm guessing the fact the dub's been produced on a noticeably cheaper & cheaper budget each year is one factor as to how it makes the slightest amount of profit in turn.

That's the problem with shows like Cocotama and even Pokemon; the toys all focus on the creatures the franchise is about and never the human characters they interact with.

Ash gets toys and Serena has had one, but characters like Iris and May got repeatedly fucked over. It's only been literally this past year that they've started making toys on the humans, and they're all expensive Megahouse statueshit

I understand ya, it's a grim satisfaction seeing something you hate but also love falling lower and lower with each passing year.

The ratings for the anime declining is not just due to it's shit dub though, the times have changed drastically.

You have options now of what to watch. It isn't like 10+ years ago where the only place you could watch Pokemon was on YTV or 4Kids, the internet has changed things so that you can get the original Japanese video and audio in just a few seconds - months before the dub episodes air.

Those episodes are also voiced better and given better OSTs.

It's quite surprising that instead of getting with the times and seeing that fans are interested in the original source rather then a low effort dub, that they don't start doing real subs for the anime. It costs money yes, but if you took the episode, translated them with subtitles and threw them up on Youtube you'd get more views there then you would on television.

Cable is dying, Youtube and streaming sites are in the process of completely taking over the main source of obtaining media. Kids don't want to sit in front of a TV and watch it, they can go to their computer or on their phones and watch things there.

I just wanted Ash's story to end while he was on top. XY was the perfect conclusion to Ash.

Now that the anime is going on past 20 years, he's never going to end. I shudder to think of Ash will being here 30 years.

This is kinda what killed any hype for any season following the series. They couldn't maintain the hype and thus ticked off people more than the Sinnoh League which didn't seem possible at the time with this lost.
