Weird but cool.

It's weird seeing character of the day people like Surge and Poke Abuser and remember the show was supposed to end at Pallet Party Panic, so these guys would naturally get a bit of focus in media adaptions. That the franchise had both a much more set in stone feeling of the world (Kanto being the end-all be-all "Pokemon World") and even a bit of an endpoint (you fight the League, become Kanto Champion), instead of knowing a new adventure with the usual plot points (villainous team, legendaries to catch, gyms) would inevitably crop up.

That sense of atmosphere Gen I had won't be ever repeated. Probably for the best, though.

First things first: I despise Genwunners. I'd rather take the vastly, vastly, VASTLY improved game mechanics and ton of cool pokemon since then, especially since my new favorite pokemon comes from Gen VII.

That said, there's a certain style AND atmosphere Gen I had in art and its world's general feeling I quite adored. I wish I could explain it... is it the more prevailant feeling of Japanese influence? Sugimori's original art style? Being very slightly less kiddified (Gamblers as opponents, everyone using whips, etc.)? I can't say.

If I could see more post-Gen III pokemon in the old Gen 1 art style, I'd be a happy happy camper.
