Red has had a set team for 8 years now.

You realize that Red already has a canon team right?
Pikachu, Snorlax, Lapras, and the starters. Used to have Espeon (the gift Eevee you get in Yellow) but that was retconned to Lapras (also a giftmon)

I think Blue should keep the Blastoise. And I know, the series mascot isn't getting removed, but he doesn't use it in tree, so I'm wishing they will someday get rid of Pikachu altogether.

This would explain why Mewtwo is unavailable in GSC. It was probably way too hard so they nerfed it down to an Espeon.
