You can breed non-alolan forms in SuMo via an everstone, so they will keep that mechanic once the latest gen moves to the next region. Bank kinda makes it redundant for the need to have alolan forms catchable in other regions.

The reason a big deal wasn't made about is because they aren't new ones.

We're not in Gen 6 anymore, pushing Megas would be like pushing breeding or double battles. It was in the last game, so we expect it to be there, we want to know about the new stuff (Z-Moves).

But they weren't retconned out. Gamefreak goes to retarded lengths to keep all the different forms of Pokemon in. You know, all those NPCs that give you items for legendaries that aren't even in the region, a mossy rock/icy rock for leafeon/glaceon, a magnetic area for probopass and magneton, everstone breeding for kanto forms, etc. I don't see why a mechanic for alolan forms is out of line with that.

I really hope this is the case.

Also, maybe they won't. Unlike new species altogether that require stuff like a Moss Rock or a Coronet, Alola forms share Pokedex Numbers and aren't needed for a National Pokedex. The only known way to get one will be to transfer from an Alola game, and they'll only return for the Gen VII remakes more than a decade later.
