Nintendo shut down online services for Nintendo Wii and DS/DSi on May 20, 2014.
When Nintendo inevietably shuts down Nintendo Network servers for the early 3DS titles, that require an online connection to download/use programs like Pokemon Bank to trade with later generations, won't that mean it'll be impossible to trade Pokemon from Gen 3 - 5, as you won't be able to transfer Pokemon from Black & White to X & Y anymore?

Nintendo didn't shut down Nintendo Wi-Fi, the company that hosted its servers (GameSpy) was shut down. It was beyond Nintendo's control.
Nintendo Network is done entirely in-house.

Bank and PokeTransporter will be up forever.
>>31839247
Yeah, that's why they made that you can catch every single Pokémon from Gen 1 to Gen 6 with XY and ORAS. Don't know if they are going to make the same in Gen 7 because you can only catch 301 in SM (Marshadow is currently unobtaonable) and when don't know how many games are going to be released this Gen.
>>31839287
To be able to download and use Bank/PokeTransporter on an old system will require an internet connection you don't have.

WiFi wasn't Nintendo's own servers you goofball.
Nintendo Network is entirely their own.

And it costs money to maintain, and they are launching a new, separate, paid service soon.
You are crazy if you think that Nintendo or any game company would keep servers up forever.
Nintendo could easily host all the dead games on the Wii/DS that got disconnected when the servers went offline. They choose not to.

>Nintendo could easily host all the dead games on the Wii/DS that got disconnected when the servers went offline. They choose not to.
Yeah because the amount of people still playing those games wasn't enough to justify the costs
The service ran from 2005 to 2014 anyway, that's plenty of time

The original Wii eshop is still running for your information. The fact that something like that is still running after almost 2 console gens speaks a lot about how they can mantain a service like that up and running for long periods of time if they want to.
>>31839283
This. The servers that Nintendo still has (namely the eshop) is still up on Wii.
>>31839293
>you can only catch 301 in SM
Aren't you forgetting the Island Scan Pokemon?
>>31839982
Yes, but that's beside the point. It's how many? 30? 40? More species out of over 800 and Marshadow is unobtainable even when you count these.
>>31840307
There's 28 Pokemon you can catch, and all of them are from 3 stage families. So Island Scan adds an extra 84 species for a total of 385 Pokemon catchable in SM.
>>31840331
Okay, that's a lot more than I expected. But it STILL doesn't really change the point, it just bumps the number by 10% instead of 5.
>>31840468
That represents a more than 25% increase in the number of Pokemon you can catch in Alola.
>>31839247
Just inject it :^)
>>31839380
Well they don't need to do it themselves. Just open the protocol to external implementation and you have just amortized the cost across the entire world, and the people who will take care of it are the people who actually care.
But they chose not to.
>>31839247
Backwards compatibility which will alow you to play older games while also using them on the modern nintendo networking
Ez, give me a harder one
Use PKHex.
Problem solved.
