Why didn't Game Freak make Trapinch single stage? Vibrava

Can someone explain to me the logic behind this line and what it's based off? Why does Trapinch turn into a Vibrava and then into a Flygon?

You can't get around this. Game Freak is pretty particular about what Pokemon get larvae stages, considering the fact that there are many Pokemon out there that DO have drastically different younger stages in real life, yet lack that stage

Well, only antlion larva make sand pits, so that leaves Arena Trap out

I dunno about Sheer Force, and it seems to me they wanted to emphasize Levitate a lot more due to how adult antlions can fly. After all, this WAS the generation abilities were introduced.

Flygon's stats don't exactly help it a lot, as most Pokemon that have relatively evenly distributed stats try to do one thing but fail to do another, and end up not being that good at the stuff they are good at because of all the other stat numbers going into something else. There's also being outclassed to keep in mind.

Overall, Vibrava and Flygon just kinda exist, and Flygon is still in a strange position, despite having FINALLY gained Dragon Dance. Although it's much better having Dragon Dance than not having it.

Pokemon with levitate aren't allowed to have other abilities (bronzong being the only exception, I think)

Game Freak should make an alternate evolution line from Trapinch where it evolves, retaining trapinch's abilities but staying a larval antlion. (like the poli family, poliwratch still being a tadpole, politoad actually becoming a frog)

I can imagine an alternate evo that borrows qualities from bagworm females and queen termites to turn trapinch into a fat, maggoty thing that sits in the sand like the hippowdon line, with huge hp, attack and defense while keeping arena trap and sheer force
