What is each type's "opposite" type?
Obvious ones
Fighting =|= Dark
Psychic =|= Ghost
Dragon =|= Fairy
Fire =|= Water/Ice
Flying =|= Ground
mechanically Dark and Fairy are similar.
Both introduced to balance another type, while also given two other types something to be strong against.
Dark nerfed psychic, while buffing fighting and bug
Fairy nerfed dragon, while buffing poison and steel

>water not being ground's opposite
>>31816197
Why?
>>31816200
you literally see them clash in RSE
the flying type representative is only a mediator between the two
Fighting and Psychic are the only ones.

dark/fairy type death angel when
Fire is the opposite to ice more than it is to water, at least the way GF does it.
Not counting hidden power because its type varies, no Fire type gets a single ice move and no ice type gets a single fire move (except rotom frost that gets willowisp).
Water types can occasionally get fire moves and vice versa, think slowbro and torkoal.
Ghost is a type very similar to dark, while psychic is a type very similar to fairy (except fairy is better). Ghost could be seen as psychic's opposite with dark as fairy's opposite, but fighting and poison could also be thrown in the mix depending on interpretation. Psychic is fighting's opposite with the "brains vs brawl" approach, poison is fairy's opposite with the "purity vs corrosion" approach, etc

Fairy =|= Ice
>>31816415
Alolan Marowak gets Ice Beam
>>31816055
Why would you possibly think fighting/ghost and not normal/ghost?
I'd say probably Steel and Grass because Industrialism vs. Nature
>>31816415
Fire also doesn't make a good opposite to Water because they're a rock-paper-scissors trio with Grass. For the same reason Fighting isn't Dark's opposite. They're part of a trio with Psychic.
Fairy =|= Dark (lightheartedness vs edgyness)
Psychic =|= Fighting (brains vs brawn)
Fire =|= Ice (hot vs cold)
Ground =|= Flying (speaks for itself)
Grass =|= Steel (organic vs artificial)
Normal =|= Ghost (mundane vs supernatural)
That's all I got
Fighting, Psychic, and Dark are the typical Fighter, Mage, and Thief trio
The Fighter is a physical powerhouse that specalizes in close-range combat, often has a weakness to magic
The Mage is a glass cannon that specializes in long-range combat
The Thief is a fragile speedster who relies on stealth
>>31817185
Bug =|= Dragon (common vs exotic)
I guess
>>31817185
Rock=|=Water (Solid vs Liquid)
Fighting, Psychic, and Dark
Fire, Ice, and Electric
Water, Ground, and Flying
Grass, Poison, and Bug
Ghost, Dragon, and Fairy
Normal, Rock, and Steel (the leftovers)
Poison =|= Steel
One is biology/life made into a weapon, the other is machine/lifelessness made into a weapon
Dark / Fairy
Ice / Fire
Fighting / Psychic
Flying / Ground
Normal / Ghost
>kinda
Dragon / Bug

No, it's not.
It's not even similar.

>mfw only one of these type combos exists as an actual 'mon
>>31818533
Untrue.
