I'd say it's more likely that the relatively low sales (and let's be clear, they weren't *that* low) came from the fact that it was on a console that was at the very end of its lifespan, or in fact already obsolete by the time BW was released outside of Japan. People didn't want to buy DS games, they wanted games specifically for their new system.

It's a more likely explanation than the Pokedex leak. The number of people who pay attention to leaks is trivial compared to the total number of buyers.

I still think OS (Not the Johto shit when they were transitioning to a never ending series) was the best the anime was going to get. It had fun characters and episodes, a plot that actually felt like it was going somewhere, and humor. Really the only thing I hate about it was Ash's pity badges. It also felt like it wasn't checking off all the boxes of the status quo.

I used to like Chugga when I was younger, but as I got older it started becoming more apparent how plain yet autistic he is. He's not a bad guy nor has he really done anything wrong, but it's such a snoozefest to watch him play. I still remember the tips and reviews he did of his Pokemon LPs and they ranged from generic or handicap mode. Gen 3 hyper beam Slaking and trying to act like it's godly fun or something. Just to make it even worse he didn't play on set, so it was just a combination of contrarian shit or stuff that just made the game even easier while talking with commentary that you can use to induce sleep when he isn't screaming about something like catchrate or finding whatever.

But Pokémon as an anime property has been continuously produced for 20 years with the possible exception of the gap following the Porygon incident.
