Without the mega how overpowering are Latios/Latias? I know they have a bad defensive typing in Psychic so I'm just wondering how common are Bug, Dark, and Ghost type moves are as well as Ice, Fairy, and Dragon. The notion of legendaries ingame is that they are overpowered but I wonder if that's really the case with Latios/Latias without their megas.

To be honest, I didn't mind that at all. You don't get them until after E4 in RSE, and it's NOT fun catching them. Having one handed to you, and give it the ability to Soar, and I'm happy.

Save your Master Ball for roaming legendaries and shinies that have the ability to KO themselves, it's why you have one.

Oh, the battle itself isn't the boring part. Battles are always fun. The boring part is encountering roaming Legendaries. You have to just go inside a building and exit. It's fucking tedious and boring.
If they were going to force you to catch it anyway, so that you can use Soaring, they might as well forgo the battle, because there is only one possible outcome.

The only reason they give you the Lati is because it unlocks soaring and they possibly couldn't come up with another way to unlock soaring. You can trade the Lati, put it on Bank or even release it and you can still soar.

It does serve a purpose as introducing megas.
