I'm not sure I really noticed a change.

What did they do? Redo them and made them shitter? Or just use shitty compressed audio files which sound crap in comparison to the gen 7 shit?

They remastered them to make them fit in a bit better.
Some really benefited, like Leavanny or Raichu. Others really didn't. At least it corrected the problem of similar sounding/identical cries like Charizard and Rhyhorn.

Mostly sounds like upped the bitrate to 320 and did a bit of EQ'ing to give them a bit more depth/width.

The Gen I cries are like six noises pitch-shifted this way and that to make 151 "unique" sounds.
Of course they're gonna sound "samey" when they're not put through the same pitch-shifting 8-bit nonsense.
