The anime clearly aren't following the games, Ash's friends have nothing to do with the trials, he isn't traveling the region, he's just going from Melemele to the other islands and then back again, Lillie doesn't have Nebby and is now a trainer, no Hau, Ilima hasn't appeared at all even tho he has stuff to do with the school in the games.

If they decide to have a UB arc, they're most likely going to have Looker and that's it.
