You can transfer Pokémon from GBA games to 4th gen DS games, then those to 5th gen DS games, then those to gen6 and gen7 through Pokémon Bank.

You can't transfer Pokémon from first two generations (Red, Crystal etc.) unless you play them on Virtual Console.
