Flygon isn't that bad. He was King of RU last gen along with Alomomola. Hard checked the best pokemon in the ADV metagame and the best Pokemon in the ORAS Ubers metagame (I doubt P-Don will drop in usage at all in SM Ubers so you can bet Flygon will likely still hard check it). Was a great pivot in Gen 4 OU and right now it pairs up really well with Scizor in UU.

Even if outclassed there are tons of Pokemon that would kill to have Flygon's run in the history of the metagames.
Tauros fell from grace even harder going from the king of OU in gen 1 to BL in two gens where everything not terrible was BL to NU four gens in a row. And even while being outclassed by other Normal types like Snorlax and eventually Staraptor and then stuff like Lopunny and Diggersby he doesn't get a single niche usage unlike Flygon.
Claydol went from OU to UU in one generation and now it's NU and not even top ten usage on the tier. No niche in VGC or other tiers, nothing.
I shouldn't even need to mention the Dusclops line dropping to PU or other examples.
