It feels like SM has insanely heavy budget cuts. The "gag festival" and the newer art direction are really just an excuse to disguise the lack of money to have better animation. Even the writing staff was reduced to 3 (+1 for the movie).

And don't use the "le OLM is experimenting with le supposedly expensive ToonBoom Harmonia" justification because making the key and in-betweens in a digital framework is actually the cheapest method compared to the hand drawn and digitally painted method they had before.

The point was to explain the crucial roles that Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde play in watching over Kalos. The backstory is kind of supposed to be kind of shrouded in mystery, especially given that the ruins are just being examined when the episode starts. The Xerneas part was weird to me too though...no explanation was given for why it didn't decide to bring or couldn't bring Isla back to life.

SM is my absolute favorite series, I really do not understand the hate it gets around here. So much variety in the different characters in the main cast, Ash got his personality back,TR at their best, beautiful animation, and everything feels fresh and fun.

That's what I really enjoyed the most with XY's style. It had so much consistent bodies with great details during the segments to the point there you were able to pause at any frame and barely see smear frames. It made it more static at some moments but that was a very small prize to pay.

I think that's part of the reason why those Pokeshippers went beserk. when Misty left, it was like a "rejection" as if the guy they were pinning for all this time rejected them. Since most of these pokeshippers were only around 12-13 or so around the time Johto was ending and AG started, many of them had never been in a relationship in real life yet.

So Misty leaving was like their "first big breakup" with a boyfriend at the time. It's also no surprise the vast majority of pokeshippers are female, besides whatever male ones still have some liking out of it based on nostalgia.

So I don't get it, do the Japanese ever have days off? How can they work on so many different anime at the same time? I imagine it takes quite a number of hours to write a script for a show, also for it to go through revisions and changes when they animate it, and do it week after week.

Especially since in Japan anime runs continuously, unlike in the U.S. where shows have seasons and only make 22 episodes a year.

I think the problem with Iris aside from calling Ash a kid, is they made her out to be too Mary Sue-ish for a while. They gave her 100 wins in her backstory with Excadrill before she met Ash, they gave her a fully evolved Dragonite, they had her beat Ash at the first tournament, she then got dragon related powers where she could sense the hearts of dragons, etc.

All this stuff could have theoretically been written well on paper, but the way they executed it left a lot to be desired.

1. No contest bullshit like May/Dawn/Serena, which was occasionally interesting but always less interesting than the stuff Misty and Iris did. More of a tomboy than everyone but Misty but still girly enough to be cute/not annoying

2. Honestly think she had the best design of a MC. Crazy hair was fun (Axew in the hair was a nice tough, and I also thought Axew was really cute, unlike many people, actually thought it was a great decision not to evolve it on the show).

3. Misty's explosions were mostly slapstick, and early Kanto Ash deserves it. She calmed down way too quickly. Back in Hoenn Ash didn't even want to travel to a Contest if it was in a different direction than the next Gym. In Sinnoh and Kalos he didn't have that problem because he had matured. AG Ash was a hothead.

I think my problem with Ash and Iris is that they didn't show enough of the positive interactions. Dawn and Ash had their high touch and they learned from each other. When they squabbled it was cute. With Iris I was just constantly asking myself why they even hang out with each other.

I dunno, I get what you're trying to say, but I don't think they did the know-it-all kid sibling thing well. Something like Hermoine from HP is a better example of how to do it IMO.
