By 'main game' are we counting third versions? What about remakes? The answer could vary wildly depending on whether you count these or not.

The common thinking is that all games with the common gameplay is main-game
So yes, that includes third versions and remakes, or even sequels if they do.

I don't think i've spoken to anyone that define it differently
