water/fairy is a niche for primarina because the typing works really well as a wall breaker/sp. def wall with it's stats (below OU of course because loltapufini). Decidueye has it's niche with spirit shackle because it works well in tandem with its supporting/utility movepool. Dark/fire only works well as a sweeper typing, something incineroar can't do due to it's low speed

Only thing that helps your case is the fake out in doubles, but that's not worth taking over arcanine in a majority of team builds

Actually you'll learn that fire/dark is actually more bad then you think. Yes you do resist a lot, but it's your weakness that will really bring incineroar down. Think for a moment, it's weak to ground, fighting, rock, water, those are the most common typings in the meta. Garchomp, lando-t, gyrados, gastrodon, taxapex, tapu fini, mega, kanguskangs power up punch, exc, and now that I think about it. He doesn't resist electric like decidueye does so tapu koko Will be a problem, also lele. Decidueye just has this one niche of trapping opponents with Spirit Shackle. Its options are far fewer.

The Smogon viability thread says that, surprisingly, its current best set is a trapping Swords Dancer that uses Sinister Arrow Raid as a nuke. It can also Defog and provide utility, plus recovery goes a long way. It's definitely not taking the tier by storm but it's more respectable than people feared after seeing how even and strange its stat distro was. Losing the Baton Pass niche was rough, too.

I am a huge Decidueye fan on concept alone, and I admit that I fell for its "cool guy" status hinting that it was the next Greninja. There's definitely a lot of wasted potential and strange design choices in the final execution of the concept, but I'm happy that it didn't result in the owl being irredeemable gutter trash. He has his niche, and he's on the same kind of power level as lots of other starters that are just below the OU cutoff.

On that note, I still don't understand why it's thread in OU is closed if it's ranked on the viability thread. It's C-, bottom of the list, which is accurate in the current meta, but if it's considered viable I'd think it should have an open thread and Ann analysis. I don't always understand Smogon.
