How to Pokemon trainers tell which Pokemon are contained within each Pokeball when they have multiples of the same type of Pokeball?

Dunno how the game trainers do, but in the manga the tops of the balls are see-through so you can see what pokemon is inside each ball.

in the anime Richie put decal stickers on his balls.
probably other trainers just know by the order they're on their belt.
