Status will prevent pokemon from calling out for help. Be happy GF included a way for them to not call out, because knowing them, it could have easily been left out.

Yeah. I felt that way too. Until I stopped being a shitty noob at the game and realized it's an easy way to get other types of pokemon, plus, each called in pokemon has better IVs than the last. Chain 40 and you got 4 perfect IVs.
