If lag is the issue, why didn't they just make the game a N3ds exclusive? People would buy WonderSwans if they could play pokemon on them so it's not like Nintendo should fear people not adopting a new console for it.

Or better yet, keep SM as is, but make Triples and Rotations something you need a N3DS for. So you can challenge anyone to singles/doubles, but you can only challenge a N3DS owner for Triples/Rotations. GameFreak has never given a shit about compatibility between games, even within the same generation, so why start now? Plus as of right now there are only 1.5 N3DS exclusives because no one is bothering to take advantage of the hardware.

I counted HWL as .5 because it runs worse than SM on the O3DS

All of the walking/running animations use much lower-poly models than the ones in-battle.

They weren't meant to be used for battle animations. They were meant for something else, probably for a following Pokemon feature.

I mean, Pokemon in the overworld sometimes walk during cutscenes using those animations, but why did they make it for every mon (including megas)? Future proofing?

Do I have to remind you that there's a possibilty we'll get DPP remakes? You could have some of your pokemon follow you, even if it was in just one area. If they decide to add pal park again maybe they'll let you walk around with every mon, what else would be the purpose of making walking animations for all of them?
