I think energy cards could have been saved all the hate if they mixed up the designs. Pulling them always felt like a troll.
Their unchanging function offers them a huge range of art potential. Why has this never been capitalized on?
I thought each generation had its own core spin on energy.
Energy cards were a weird mechanic to begin with, obviously ripping off MTG's land cards with no basis in the Pokémon video games whatsoever.
They should've been badge cards attached to the player instead of the pokémon, as in "you don't have enough badges to use that move", at least it would be a thing that already existed in the setting.

Most kids (and adults) with cards still don't play the game, or even know how to (probably). They just like the art on the cards. It makes sense then to go all out with the art for energy cards.
