pretty respectable taste, but like someone before you, I also have to ask how one (Primeape line in this case) managed to get into your top favorites, when a prevailing factor among most of them are being good competitively. Design-wise, there isn't a unifying theme, so I'd have to guess it's more about nostalgia?

Troh and Sawk are too plain imo, kinda like Lucario but it has never been a favorite of mine. Beware Would have been infinitely better if it looked more like a red panda, which is my favorite animal. The musketeers go from ok to shit, Samurott should be fighting and Emboar should have been a totally different design. Overall a great type, I hope the next water starter is /fighting

Uhhh I guess in Mankey's case it's definitely nostalgia, cuz I used to picture him as my shouldermon when I was a kid first getting into Pokémon, so naturally I grew to like Primeape as well. But none of my favorites except maybe Scrafty have anything to do with competitive value, I just like the mons I think look cool.

So many of the fighting type pokemon have different styles of fighting. Boxing and kickboxing with the lees and primeape and wrestling with Poliwrath and Machamp for example. Which pokemon would be more representative of muay thai, BJJ, Judo, and Kung Fu?

Sawk is an excellent choice--the only thing keeping me from putting it higher on my list is the existence of better pure fighting types but Sawk is still bro tier

Hitmontop is respectable competitively although I'm not a big fan of its design

Poliwrath is, sorry to say, not my cup of tea. Poliwhirl is adorable but I homestly think the transition to wrath is lazy and uninspired. Underwhelming stats arent helping either

Gallade is a cool bro. Lots of moves to play around with and the dual type is a nice bonus and change of pace from my usual bulky brute bros

Emboar isnt everyone's cup of tea and I respect that but I honestly think he's cool and doesn't deserve half the shit it gets because it is far from a clone of its two predecessors (most of complaints against it are unfair as well). Fire beard is a novel motif as well and the shiny and access to great coverage is fantastic

Never understood Heracross' appeal but he's okay and the mega is ugly but competitively sound and respectable

I'll pass to keep my rate somewhat positive-leaning

Scrafty and Croagunk form a cool punk/rebelious duo. They're like the types to make fun of other fighting types and are lazy and wont do work outs but will still give you their all when push comes to shove. I bet they also gloat their immunities while ignore their 4x weakness

I prefer Stufful although my displeasure with Bewear has somewhat lessened over time

the respected competitively portion are for fighting pokemon you don't necessarily like but you hold in high esteem for their competitive value. However, this does not necessarily mean you think they deserve it. Case in point, notice how /vp/ always cries foul at the genies? I mean a "top tier" fighting type may not necessarily earn your espect. For example, I personally think Lucario and its mega is cheap because of how GF clearly plays favorites. Or how you think Mega Mewtwo doesn't merit as a fighting type because it's tacked on or far too removed from its original concept or whatever.

Respecting fictive monster is autistic. Take Keldeo for example, I think it looks like a piece of shit, but I acknowledge it's competitive viability, nor is it's playstyle particularly cheap. But I would never say I "respect" it.

You know what you made me realize that. Looking back on many rates I've seen here, if somebody wasn't a fan of fighting types until 3rd gen, they are most likely to dislike/dont care about too-humanoid designs and use that filter on fighting types from then on. These are most likely the same people who would like only Mienshao and maybe Scrafty but hate the rest of the Gen 5 roster because they are using Gen 3 fighting types as the blueprint or baseline of designs that appeal to them.

On the other hand, those who have been fans since Gen 1 are more likely to appreciate/be open minded Machamp, Conkeldurr, Sawk, Throh etc.
