If the majority of Ghost type pokémon are based on animals and objects that are definitely tangible, why are they still immune to Normal and Fighting type moves? I punched a chandelier once and it broke.
have you tried punching a ghost
The same reason that flying Pokemon are immune to ground types but floating Pokemon without levitate aren't.

Ghost-type Pokemon aren't intangible, they just have the ability to phase through things. They use their powers to make Normal and Fighting attacks phase through them.
Gif related: Hawlucha uses Flying Press and goes right through Trevenant but Froakie who was riding on Hawlucha's back doesn't.
