Well, it could just be a slight change to the overworld sprite and the sprite in your Trainer Card/Passport. For XY, they could implement a contest-ish minigame that features you and your pokémon modeling (cuz y'know, Paris) that incorporates clothing/style into it. I dislike that they stayed with sprites as long as they did actually. If they switched to models earlier than gen 4, they would be much better at making them. The sprites are ugly as hell pre-gen 3, and the static look was awful for making the Pokemon seem "alive" compared to the boring and washed out models. Gen 5 brought some nice movement but they elected to make them warp a little rather than animating separate frames.

Rather, waiting so long to switch was the mistake. 3D models are the best thing to ever happen to the franchise. Pokemon have so much more personality now that you can interact with them. Compare to gen 5's vomit-inducing tweens and it's easy to see that sprites had long outlived their welcome.
