It was only a problem if you had a habit of walking from town to town.
The high encounter rate inc aves was the main problem (since people for some reason refused to use repel), followed by needing surf and/or rock smash
Trying to go to Snowpoint was like trying to go from Fuchsia to Cinnabar by surf.

But overall, you didn't really need to go through the same section of Mount Coronet more than once, except for that bit of it that is shared by both the route to Snowpoint and the way to Spear Pillar.

All of the Alolan forms mix up something about the original.
About half of the time, that changes its role. A-Persian is surprisingly bulky with Fur Coat. A-Dugtrio gains Steel typing and Gooey, a decent ability for something that's supposed to take a lot of hits.
The other half of the time, it improves on the original to a more competitve level. A-Sandslash pushes it's decent physical bulk some more, and gives it an option to increase its speed to a more than usable level. A-Muk gains a fantastic offensive and defensive typing.

megas were executed poorly as soon as GF began giving pseudos and legends megas, but the concept was great, things like lopunny, charizard, medicham and galade all skyrocketed in usage thanks to their megas, and these weren't broken.

Z-moves are dumb, even less helpful to quell power creep than megas were since they're inherently universal and require you to run specific sets.

IF GF hadn't bitched out, I imagine they could've gotten megas to reach a balance of being good, but not too good, and prevent things like mega audino and mega mawile from being made.
