It's not that they merge the current typ chart effectivenesses together, it's that they remove the two types and replace it with one that functions similarly with type interactions that they picked and chose. So it might just replace Ghost with Dark except it's still immune to Normal, or something. It's even easier with Ground because their type matchups do go together, somewhat.

plus, my reasoning was that the moves these two types have do not only sound similar but kinda seem like it's from one type. the only difference would be crooked shit like feint attack not being really something that defines a ghost first and foremost, so it's a dark move because it's a perfidious thing to do.

there is no way you can claim these two types don't have a shitload in common, so it's at least interesting to think about what would happen if you merge them. do they need to be merged though? no, not right now. this thread is about hypothetical approaches.

Just like fairy, dark was a mistake, a hasty overreaction to an overpowered type.
