Fire is objectively the most normie type. Charizard was what most normies picked back in the day because it's the most generic and safe design.
Fire is also the element most normies lean toward in all forms of media (because fire is badass XD)

What are you on about? Charizard is, and always has been the Pokemon to appeal to children and normies. Did Squirtle get the lead role in Origins, the solo spot in Smash, 2 Megas and constant reappearances in the anime? Water as a type is normie tier, but it's not even close to Fire's reign of attracting children and normies.

Anyway, Grass will always be the patrician's choice.

This is correct. Funny, considering Bugs trainers are portrayed as laughable in the games. When in reality it's one of those types that has consistently good/interesting designs. It also harkens back to the origin and conception of Pokémon itself. Thus anyone who likes Bug must have some pretty good taste.

The majority of bug Pokemon are worms, cocoons, and butterflies/moths lines. There are cool designs that aren't that, just like there are interesting water types that aren't just kinds of fish.
