Why not just mod your 3DS and back up the saves that way? It reminds me of what I used to do with the older games with the Mega Memory Card. Just is a lot more convenient when you want to just keep playing it repeatedly without worry.

I'd say use primierina. I almost regret using owl instead because over time i began to see decideye's design as pretty meh, and started liking primerina's design more. Alas since i don't have any friends with he gen 7 games i can't just restart the game with a different starter. and seeing as i'm in post game i don't feel like doing so anyways.

If you're going to do stuff like EV training, resetting for natures, etc, Rowlet might be worth the investment.
For full casual mode Popplio seems better.
