First time in /vp/. I haven't played a Pokemon game since Emerald and I just downloaded it on my phone.

How do you guys pick your favorites? Is there a way I'm supposed to figure one Pokemon is better than another without going online to look at the base stats? I'm kinda stuck in the loop of just sticking with whatever looks the coolest while collecting my favorite types.

I always pick my in-game teams by looking at what Pokemon I like by looking at their design and their typings. Others have favorites because they like how good it is competitive-wise.

As you can see, this particular autist played gens 4-7 multiple times for some unknown reason. Sure, you may return to some old games to replay them because they're good, but in this case, it looks as though this player has autistically played them back to back. Evidence? Sun and Moon have only been around for 2 months, yet he has finished both. Gen 7 was good, but no normal player would play through it twice, especially not back to back like this autistic player has.

Even though they say they didn't play the games back to back, there's nothing wrong with playing a game you like over again back to back. New game + in a lot of games is just the same game but harder or easier, and that's an intended feature. I always wondered why people almost aways use starters. Are they popular just because they're starters and "supposed" to be used or did GF just really do such a great job of designing starter trios in which everyone can find at least one they like?

And do people really care about "strength" when playing through story mode? Doesn't everyone complain that the games are piss easy? Why even care about such a thing?

I find it baffling when I see threads asking stuff like which starter is the best or what to pick for their team, etc. I mean, you can get away with using Luvdisc and Delibird if you want.

Most Starters have a cool design and usually have good types. Also, I don't know if this is true or not, but usually starters are quicker to level up. I personally like using them for my team to cover a region lack of the starters type in the region (Infernape for example). Yeah they make the game easier because of how strong they are, but if you want to make your pokemon games harder there are lots of ways to make it so (have a dynamic team, use whatever kind of Pokemon and even nuzlockes can be fun).
