I'm calling bullshit. Pokemon textures are usually a lot of solid colors without too many small details. They could simply render each texture (or the whole one, don't know anything about pokemon models) with randomized RGB values.

Having experience and wanting to actually do something is very different.

If they don't have to do it they won't. That's what I've learned with GameFreak. That and that if it's a new, good idea for a new gen expect it to be gone by the next gen.
