For me raising a pokemon starts with naming them. From there I decide a personality, EV spread, and move set. My monsters wont ever be tournament juggernauts but I'm not playing to beat a 12 year old in a battle. I'm playing because I enjoy the pet raising aspects.

Venusaur named Hestia, Ledian named Scarlet, Mewtwo named Erwin, Banette named Andy, even the recent additions of Tapu Lele (Nut), and two celesteelas (Columbia and Challenger) all bear nicknames not because I think they're clever but as a very direct way of showing I took the time and effort to raise this one the way I think it should be raised.
