I think it has Hermit Purple because of Jonathan's body.

It's explained that DIO gets his Stand when pierced by the arrow, and because his body is Jonathan's the arrow also gave a Stand to it, and by some kind of genealogical chain reaction, all alive Joestars got a stand too.

So in practice, DIO has two Stands: The World, which parallels Jotaro's Star Platinum and some unnamed stand which is similar to Joseph's Hermit Purple.

But as the manga doesn't show DIO using any SUTANDO PAWAA other than The World (which is a clone of Star Platinum) and the Hermit Purple clone, you can only tell that he has the same Stands than Jotaro and Joseph, which coincidentally (or not) are Joestars.

If he was shown using a Hierophant Green or a Silver Chariot clone, you could tell he was to have all Stand powers (which would be broken as fuck, btw) and then retconned, but you only get that he has those two powers and the Joestars got some powers after DIO got them.

Keep in mind that it's explained from the very beginning in Stardust Crusaders that Joseph, Holly and Jotaro get a Stand just when DIO gets his.

So the "genealogical chain effect" that triggers when DIO is pierced by the arrow is literally there.

You have Joseph, Holly and DIO share a Stand which is quite the same (spiky vines), even when Holly can't use it (supposedly because she lacks the spirit to control it), and then Jotaro and DIO sharing another (muscle guy who can punch shit very fast and stop time).

So in my book DIO gets two Stands, not just The World, because he has "two bodies" (Jonathan's and his own head). Because of the "Joestar bloodline", Jonathan's alive descendants (Joseph, Holly and Jotaro) get some variation of one of the Stands DIO got. If George Joestar II were alive, he would have got a Stand too.
