Saving is nowhere near as bad in HGSS as the Sinnoh games. It's the grinding that's the issue, but I only found out recently that you can rematch trainers by ringing them up rather than waiting around for them to ring you. Specific trainers have specific times though, but Serebii has the full list and it's made E4 grinding so much quicker so far.

Don't play it. HG/SS is overrated as fuck. Boring regions, boring characters, boring Pokemon and a retarded level curve. Emerald, Platinum, ORAS, and B2W2 are better so play them instead.
