I still think they tried too hard to mimic the original games with stuff like not letting you breed pokemon till way later just basic advancements in the series like that which they keep closed off for no good reason makes it annoying
also I dislike how the Sevii Islands are treated like a different world they're a decent addition but I would still prefer they had just expanded Kanto itself

overall both FRLG and ORAS feel a little bit like Gamefreak was phoning it in whereas with HGSS it feels like they put in a lot more effort

I'd like it more if trading wasn't so restricted. Being locked into Kanto mons only makes it hard to replay, since everything earlygame is samey.
In games like HGSS I'd trade over eggs of mons from other regional dexes, like Seviper and Starly, and use those in third or fourth runs. Here I feel stuck using the same mons over and over since the game prevents you from getting Hoenn mons.
