Yes. People have shit connections and the game's netcode isn't very good. That has nothing to do with the online service as all it did was connect you with other players and this part was almost always very quick. Everything after that point is peer to peer.

It's entirely on a game to game basis and dependent on whether or not they have dedicated servers for them. I could see Pokemon continuing to be peer to peer for example, but maybe Splatoon and Mario Kart using such servers. This is if Nintendo decides not be complete cheapskates about it.
I think best case scenario is that some games such as Pokemon will function with online capability without having to pay.

It is wasting. My money could be better spent on many other things, including other luxuries, even other video games. I put at least five hundred hours into my Wii U and still feel I shouldn't've gotten it despite the fun I had with it since its support all but disappeared around 2015.

Spla2n is highly appealing to me but it's not worth the high price of the system and it's definitely not worth fucking paid online. I'd refuse paid online by principle even if it was just $5 per year.
