Considering that GF uses their own servers, it'll probably work the same as it already does, with some extra features for the switch's paid functionality.

They specifically made the free trail until autumn I think Pokemon stars. Mario oddsey doesn't need it. Nintendo is probably expecting Pokemon fans to carry this paid model
