Why the hell would Ash get a full team this time around? He doesn't need it. There's only 3 Kahuna battles left. Ash doesn't have a rival and it's looking like he won't get one.

If he gets a full team some of them won't partake in any big battle and they won't get much personal development time either.

There's simply a lack of battles in SM that does not go well together with a full team. I would say it's even enough if he gets Litten and thats it.

I think Ash will only get two fully evolved mons this time, and one of them will be either Incineroar or Decidueye. As you said, there are basically three Kahunas left before the league and the Aether arc, so there isn't really a need for a fully evolved team.

Well so far there hasn't been any forced school episodes that feel like they don't belong.
The worst episode so far was the Mall episode with Sophicles and the reason why it was bad was because Sophicles is a boring character to begin with and absolutely nothing happened of consequence in that episode.

Furthermore there has been a lot of foreshadowing already with both Litten and Owlet. At the very least Ash is going to have to travel away from School to find Litten again and if things keep going as they are Ash is going to to want to get the Grass Z-Crystal as well since Owlet has more than proven it's worth to him.

Then there's the blatant foreshadowing of Gladion and Lusamine's show-up.
