>Pokémon
>Pokémon comes from the words "Pocket and Monster"
>Pocket is pronunced as "Pock-et"
>There are people out there that pronunce "Pokémon" as "Po-kee-mon, totally ignoring the "é"
What went wrong?

Pokémon was released in the west
Because PAWK EH MON sounds strange. Don't care. Never saying it like that, just forming the "correct" way of saying it with my lips feels blasphemous.
>>31336642
It's officially pronounced as Po-kay-mon
>>31336642
Because people are stupid.
That's the universal answer for everything, so remember it before asking.
>>31336642
People just say it the same way it's pronounced in the anime.
>>31336642
Nips don't have a short O, so pocket is "poh-ket"
Then the western release happened and since baby boomer parents don't watch cartoons made by Charlie, they read what was in front of them. Aka Poke-ee-mon
>>31336703
Lol I bet you pronunce Kyogre as Kai-ogre
>>31336725
Calm down
>>31336726
>>31336758
Ah so once again chinease cartoons ruined everything, nice.
>>31336642
But "É" is pronounced "ay". "È" is pronounced "eh"
>>31336642
you mean pok-min, right?
this is the proper pronunciation
>>31336642
>Pokémon
>everyone has heard the name pronounced at least once in the cartoon, ads or various official english language media
>They still insist on pronouncing it wrong
I don't get it.
The advert for Charlie Brooker's 2016wipe had him pronounce it "Pock-é-mon". The first time I've ever heard anyone pronounce it that way and I realised that's technically correct.
>>31336778
>Kai-ogre
why yes, i do pronounce it correctly
>inb4 ki-ogre or ke-o-gREWHICH ARE BOTH FUCKING WRONG

>tfw anime got kyogre and groudon wrong
did they?
https://youtu.be/0Loz61U6CuE?t=1011
It's Kai-ogre
>>31337519
Put an é instead of an e you retard
>>31336642
Dumb americans don't know what a ´ is.
>>31336642
>People pronounce it PŌK-uh-mon
>>31337517
I couldn't believe I was saying then wrong all these years. GRAU-don like ground, KAI-oh-ger. Both of them roll off the tongue horribly, though.
GREW-don and Kee-oger sound and feel much less awkward.

God fucking damn it. The Latin American Dub which was the one which I've grown with literally killed most of these pronunciations.
