Except it's literally impossible to tell the difference between stuff like Eelektross, Gyarados, and Mantine and stuff like Seaking and Lumineon. If it's "swimming" midair it's still floating. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

That's incredibly stupid, having to account for battle mechanics when drawing a design. Retconning tons of pokemon, putting limits on artistic interpretations because of balancing issues, it'd be a fucking mess. What if in the future they change poses and some pokemon that were previously floating now don't anymore, or vice versa (see Eelektross and Ferrothorn)? Weezing and Megnezone receive and incredible buff just because they HAPPEN to have been drawn floating in the air 20 years ago. That's the most arbitrary shit in the world
