Best Pokemon game on ds/dsi? Never played past ruby and I recently

HeartGold/SoulSilver, Platinum and Black/White 2 are all good.

HGSS (Johto remake) is probably the best thing to get you back in the swing of things

BW for a more linear but brand new experience

Platinum is probably good for adventure last "old game feeling"

BW2 has one of the best dexes and overall content in the series. I would suggest taking a break inbetween BW and BW2

Start with HeartGold or Soulsilver. Save White and White 2 for last. Or Black Versions if you want

Heart Gold/Soul Silver first, then Platinum, then Black 2/White 2.

I don't know. I never owned a DS. but google how to break it so you can do homebrew and emulation.

/v/ was all over that shit when it became possible with the PSP and the NDS.

don't bother with an actual DS, get the better romhack versions of the games on an emulator on your phone (Sacred Gold/Storm Silver and Blaze Black 2/Volt White 2)
