The problem with FFXIII isn't that it's linear and has lots of cutscenes. Its problem is map design. 90% of the game is literally just a single unending hallway with no branching paths (that aren't just 10 feet to a chest and dead-end), all of which is dungeon, no towns, and you go from dungeon to dungeon in cutscenes with nothing connecting them.
