First, OP you had a complete year in 2016 to do that because of #Pokémon20.

Now, if I would choose either Gen 1 or Gen 2 I would choose Gen 2 without thinking twice, because it has actual colors (RB are monochromatic and Y overworld colors change depending of the city you are), it has a more serious story, more balanced gameplay, and you can abuse from a glitch that allows you to choose all 3 starters.

i played pokemon Yellow when it came to the 3ds, but the games are extemely boring without compatibility with the stadium games and gen II. on its own, gen 1 sucks but combined with the other games its compatible with, its argueably the most fun you can have in the series
