It's not unusual to see it on its feet. Sprites are simply meant to be as representative as possible, so instead of maintaining an attacking pose it now has an idle stance by default.

Typhlosion was never "massively propogated" as always having its flames on, that's just your headcanon based on the 2D sprite.

The anime and 3D games always depicted with the flames off except when it's attacking, because they weren't held back by the technical limitations of the handheld games, this is a fact.

My opinion (and I think a lot of us can agree) is the sprites did add a lot of character to the Pokemon. I know it takes them a longer time to make the Pokemon now, since they are a 3D model. But we do have models for every single one now, so I am hopeful that slowly they will give Pokemon more unique mannerisms by making their idle animations more...animated. Like Machamp can flex every so and again, or things like Torkoal could snort and have fire come out of his nose, or have Slowbro yawn. Make them all seem different again. They could do batches of 50 or so each gen. Ya know?

I think what anon is saying is, in the card game, the Pokemon mainline, and a lot in the anime, we mainly see the Pokemon as they are battling, but that doesn't mean the Pokemon ALWAYS has to have those features. We often think of a football player as wearing his helmet and pads, because that is what we see them in most often, but in fact they spend a majority of their time wearing street clothes.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I think they neutered a lot of different Pokemon's individuality, but I was just trying to articulate anons point instead of just shit flinging back and forth.

Having said that...hopefully they start diversifying and making all the Pokemon unique again. Doesn't have to be much...just instead of z move animations going overboard and being used for one generation we could have the Pokemon all be made to show their differences going into the future of the franchise.

Yes but the thing is, when B/W were released everyone thought the helmet was the sword as its sprite animation never pulled them out. Not even its sugimori artwork revealed the stored leg weapons. If your not playing the 3DS games,researching designs on bulbapedia, or watching the BW anime/Victini movie, no one going to even know that Samurott's front legs are actually carrying massive swords.
