Just because of the resistances? I mean, it makes sense but I feel like Emboar is tempting for the bulk. Also considering i'm gonna be regularly battling a friend so that may be necessary.

If your playing the first games get water so you're more likely to get something with super effective against grass to make the first gym easier

Emboar bulk

Samurott overall. Serperior has no movepool (though lategame Coil sweeps are handy) while Emboar is slow and pretty frail. Water seems to be harder to get good Pokemon for in this game compared to usual, and there are several other decent Fire and Grass types.

Picking Tepig does help against Lenora though, who can be dangerous.
