So if I bought a new copy of sun and moon or whatever previous games that allowed you to choose your language, selected a language other than english, and started sending pokemon from that game over to my english copy, would these pokemon work for the masuda method of breeding shinies, or do they have to be pokemon originally sent from foreign internet connections?

They actually depend on your 3DS' region, not the language that you play the game in.
