The defining trait of Hau is that he's cheerful but actually quite down to earth (and probably the most sensible kid in the game), Gladion is that he's a nice chuuni kid who hides his crappy childhood with an emo act. Whatever their sexuality is, is only one trait of their character, they are just Hau and Gladion. Representation is a complex thing, I personally feel like its silly for a character's defining trait to be their sexuality but when its not its called pandering for a character to suddenly come out as gay.
